Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Fabricates replacement and new parts for facility and customer machinery using the systems integration and test functions to ensure the production of company products at the highest quality, at the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards, customer specifications, and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Fabricates, erects, installs, and maintains machinery.
- Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on the machinery.
- Diagnoses machine malfunctions and operating difficulties, effects repairs and adjustments, either temporarily to keep machine in production, or permanently if required and feasible.
- Rebuilds machines and overhauls troublesome components and attachments to involve dismantling, inspection, machining and/or replacement of purchased parts.
- Lays out repair parts; sets up, and operates machine tools to machine parts, frequently improvising standard machines, tooling, and attachments to perform unusual, highly precise and complicated operations.
- Works from machine design drawings, specifications, and handbook formulas.
- Uses a wide range of precision measuring instruments and devices to set up, operate machine and check work.
- Cleans and maintains work area.
- Turns off and locks out equipment when not in use.
- Maintains departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and order as necessary.
- Ensures the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as time cards, quality records, etc.
- Ensures compliance with departmental housekeeping standards, OSHA housekeeping standards, and all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Needs to be present at work in order to perform the functions of this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
- Performs skilled operations such as fitting and aligning of bearings, spindles and shafts, scrape ways; fits, aligns and calibrates measuring devices and moving parts, adjusting and feeding mechanisms.
- Performs Assembler’s work having to do with the installation of new machine tools or relocation of existing machines to involve erection, leveling, fitting, and aligning operations.
- Writes and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPS) and Job Safety analysis (JSAs).
- Develops and implements preventive maintenance procedures and plans the repair of machines and equipment to minimize downtime.
- Completes daily maintenance and repair logs.

Education / Experience
- This position requires knowledge of machine shop practices and techniques, basic mechanical and hydraulic principles and shop mathematics, setup, tooling operating methods and machinability of materials, plus a working knowledge of electronic control equipment as it relates to machining operations as may be acquired by four years of vocational or high school supplemented by a formal on-the-job training program.
- The latter may include post high school vocational courses, plus three to four years of machine repair experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and simple algebraic equations.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
